How VA community care for neurofeedback actually works

The VA's Community Care Network does cover biofeedback and EEG neurofeedback when it is provided by a licensed clinician with recognized neurofeedback training and the VA authorizes the referral first. ME Mind and Body is not itself a VA community-care provider. Our clinical partner is:

Request by name
Dr. Donald "Don" Posson, Ph.D., LADC, BCN
BCIA Board Certified in Neurofeedback (2012) · Ph.D. Psychology · Nevada LADC #1082 · U.S. Navy, retired (1978–2001) · Neurofeedback in the Las Vegas Valley since 2015 · Listed with TriWest Community Care Network · NPI #1215340864

Dr. Posson is a retired U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer (1978–2001) and has delivered neurofeedback in the Las Vegas Valley since 2015.

Eligibility, authorization, and coverage are determined by the VA. Some veterans access neurofeedback through community care at no out-of-pocket cost; others do not qualify. We will tell you which we think applies before you spend anything.

01

Ask your VA provider

Ask your VA Primary Care Manager (PCM) or VA Mental Health provider for a community-care referral for neurofeedback / EEG biofeedback and request Dr. Posson by name.

02

VA authorizes

The VA reviews eligibility and issues an authorization to the community provider. This can take a few weeks; call us if you get stuck and we'll help you follow up.

03

Train

Authorized sessions are delivered under the clinical partner. Massage at ME Mind and Body remains cash-pay at the veteran rate.

Veteran questions

Is neurofeedback proven for PTSD?

Not yet in the strict sense. A 2024 meta-analysis of 17 randomized trials found meaningful improvement in PTSD symptoms compared with waiting-list or usual care, but almost no difference compared with sham or active-control conditions, and most trials were unblinded. That is why we call it a promising complement to evidence-based PTSD care (such as CPT, PE, or EMDR), not a replacement.

Will you talk to my VA provider?

Gladly, with your written permission. We can send a short summary of what we do and what we observed in sessions.

Does the 20% discount stack with VA coverage?

They're separate: VA-authorized neurofeedback is billed by the community-care provider under VA rules; the discount applies to cash-pay services booked directly with us.

Does the VA cover neurofeedback?

Sometimes. VA policy (VA Directive 1137 and the VA Whole Health biofeedback guidance) lists biofeedback — which includes EEG neurofeedback — among the complementary approaches covered under the medical benefits package when your VA care team decides it is clinically appropriate. Coverage is not automatic: it takes a community-care referral from your VA provider, VA authorization, and a community provider who meets the VA's neurofeedback training standard. Our clinical partner does; ME Mind and Body on its own does not.

How do I get a VA referral for neurofeedback in Las Vegas?

Ask your VA Primary Care Manager or VA Mental Health provider for a community-care referral for neurofeedback / EEG biofeedback, and name Dr. Don Posson (NPI 1215340864) as the provider you want. If the referral is authorized, TriWest — the VA's community-care network administrator for Nevada — handles the paperwork. Call or text 702.850.2021 if you get stuck and we will help you follow up.

Is ME Mind and Body a VA provider?

No. ME Mind and Body is a cash-pay neurofeedback and massage studio. VA-authorized neurofeedback is delivered by our clinical partner, Dr. Posson, under his credentials and the VA's rules. Everything else here — the 20% veteran and first-responder rate, massage, self-pay neurofeedback — you can book directly with us today.
